Nina Da Costa makes history

Nina Da Costa became the first black female director to have a #1 box office opening weekend estimated at $22 million debut for Candyman.

The horror and psychological genres are favourites of mine. Due for release last year, Da Costa, who will also direct Captain Marvel 2, was adamant that the film be experienced in the theatre. She had a vision for the feature, and it is paying off. Even though there were delta variant concerns, Candyman rose to the top.

Candyman cost $25 million to produce. By this weekend, MGM and Universal will make their money back, and the returns are exponential from there.

I am looking forward to this remake. For those who are unfamiliar, the original Candyman was released in 1992. Candyman, directed by Da Costa and written by Jordan Peele, is played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Legend is Candyman appears when you say his name five times.

The moral of the story if you keep someone's name out of your mouth, you won't have any problems...;)
