Support artists, not algorithms

The philosopher Erykah Badu once said, “I’m an artist, and I’m sensitive about my s*&^.” There is a lot that goes into creating. When someone, especially a company, has the unmitigated gall to help themselves to your content or art as if you are running a buffet, it should be illegal and regulated.

I understand the Intellectual Property Office has challenges with AI, rights holders, models and learning from existing materials such as movies, books and music. However, this should not come at the expense of the artist.

The UK Government is expected to produce a long-awaited AI regulation in the UK whitepaper that may include a copyright code of practice and training in artificial intelligence.

My view:

It’s not complicated. If your model uses work from an artist, write code to identify and pay them.
